『君の名は。』で英語学習 #04【in regard to・remind】

『君の名は。』の英語吹き替え版のセリフで英語学習をしていきます。
今回は第4回です。町役場の放送のシーンを扱います。

スクリプト

Announcer A:
Attention citizens of Itomori. Good morning. This is an official announcement from Itomori Town Hall. It is in regards to the mayoral election. The election will be held on the 20th of next month. The election committee would like to remind everyone that–

News Anchor A:
A comet that comes only once every 1,200 years will finally be headed our way in a month. The comet will be visible to the naked eye for several days once it approaches the Earth…

Yotsuha:
Just make up with him already, okay?

Mitsuha:
It’s an adult matter.

News Anchor A:
According to JAXA’s spokesperson, they’re preparing for the celestia show of the millennium.

表現を確認しよう

Attention citizens of Itomori.

「アテンション・プリーズ！」の「アテンション」です。
注意を引きつけています。
“Attention, ” とカンマを打っても良いですね。

It is in regards to the mayoral election.

with [in] regard to 〜 : 〜に関して、〜について

“in regards to” とありますが、”in regard to” または “with regard to” が一般的なようです。
regard は辞書を引いておきたい単語ですね。

mayoral : 市長の、町長の、村長の

mayor は「市長」ですね。

The election will be held on the 20th of next month.

hold は他動詞で「催す」「開く」です。
be held と、受け身で使うのは定番ですね。

The election committee would like to remind everyone that–

committee : 委員会

「remind 人 that 〜」 の形で使われています。
remind は「思い出させる」です。「remind 人 of 物」の形が有名ですね。

A comet that comes only once every 1,200 years will finally be headed our way in a month.

文のかたまりを掴みます。

“A comet” と言ってから、どんな彗星かというと、”that comes only once every 1,200 years” と説明しています。
「1200年に1度だけ来る」彗星ですね。

finally が will の後に入っています。
会話レベルでこれが使いこなせるとかっこいいですね。

head : 〜を向ける

“be headed” と受け身になっています。
「向かって進む」ということですね。

“The comet will be visible to the naked eye for several days once it approaches the Earth…”

naked : 裸の

naked eye で「裸眼」「肉眼」ですね。

受験生は naked（ネイキッド） と wicked（ウィキッド） の発音を押さえましょう。
共に [id] の発音ですね。
wicked は「悪い、不正な」の意味です。

approach : 〜に近づく

approach は他動詞ですね。
「approach 場所」 と使います。
「approach to 場所」としないようにしましょう。

once は接続詞として使っています。
「一旦〜すると」ということですね。

Yotsuha:
Just make up with him already, okay?
「いい加減仲直りしないよ？」

make up : 和解する、仲直りする

up ですから、溝を埋めるイメージですね。

難しい単語ですね。
対義語は terrestrial「地球の、地球上の」です。
